SASSA Banking Details Guide

Guidance on SASSA banking details, bank verification, payment accounts and protecting your PIN and OTP.

Information reviewed 20 September 2026

Why Banking Details Matter

Banking information is used to pay approved benefits and may be verified before payment. The 2026 SASSA grant booklet states that an active personal bank account in the applicant’s name should support electronic funds transfers for social-assistance payments.

Use an Account in Your Name

Make sure the account details are accurate and associated with the beneficiary where required. Incorrect names, account numbers or closed accounts can delay verification or payment.

Documents for Permanent Grants

The 2026 grant booklet notes that applicants updating or providing banking details may need a recent bank statement or account-confirmation information showing the applicant’s name and account number.

SRD Banking Verification

SRD banking and payment information is handled through the SRD process and can take time to verify. An approved status does not always mean a payment date is immediately available.

Protect your money: never share a bank PIN, card PIN, online banking password or OTP with a website or person claiming to speed up a grant.
